• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Do you have a hobby that requires certain skills or study?

I admire those early years of motorcycles.. (very late 1800’s -1900) .. they were basically pushbikes with motors..
What’s the oldest bike you’ve restored?
1913 Harley board track racer.
I'm more involved in the "modern" era starting around 1935 and up into the mid 50s.
My phone, for whatever reason, wont let me post a pic if the 38 Indian 4 that is currently the bane of my existence.

Wow… I love all the early Indians.. especially the “modern” scouts.. and tbh the early Harleys.. you have a commendable job there and I salute your dedication to saving classic cycles .. 🫡

I have a sportster (it’s not a girls bike!)
78 Triumph T140v
Suzuki Bandit (winter hack)
Vespa T5 (I’ve had since my early 20s, bought new, sold it wrecked, found it again, restored it)

I restore tube amps and sometimes build some.
.. in your opinion are the ac30s made in China .. really that bad and are we missing out on bargain tube amps because they’re made in China-land?

Well...I don't have much experience with them. I did own a "first generation" CC2X in the early 2000s. I remember doing one mod to it to add an external speaker jack or something like that. It was a PITA but it worked out fine. I never had any problems with the amp. I had it a couple years, issue-free.

I have no experience with any more recent "Vox" amps and have not kept up with them "in the news." Really...I only very rarely work on circuit board amps. This being a hobby, I have the luxury of being able to pick and chose what I want to work on...and circuit-board amps, made to a price point, ain't it, if you get my drift :)

Currently I have this beautiful old Valco-made Oahu on my bench.

I doubt I’d get one now, even though I’ve always wanted an ac30.. as it’ll be too loud for my use.. I just think the ccx etc on paper should be a really good amp.. and the used prices are really reasonable for what should be a decent amp.. “if” I was to ever get a ac30 it would have to be the last of the UK Korg era models which you can get for kinda decent money.
But tbh I’m very happy with my humble SS Vox escort (uk made) coupled with my blues junior (USA).
Which raises the question of UK/USA made (guitars/amps) was literally “the law” growing up.. but is that still the case.. ? As we’ve kinda accepted the Korean/Chinese guitars (to a point) and we can’t deny that these markets have really upped their standards.. also the younger generations don’t seem to be bothered where the guitars/amps are made? Because they are well made.. and do the job.. 🤔

I’m over thinking this .. right.
