Any suggestions on achieving that thick, nasty, chunky tone that Mr. Haynes has on the Gov't mule efforts? I've read that he uses primarily '58 and '59 historic reissues into a soldano or marshall stack, but what I'm intersted in is how to get that out of a paul at reasonable levels...like combo amps and effects...

Thanks!

One of his rigs is SLO-100 into a rare PRS 4x12. He also uses a Engl head as well. I'm sure there are others here more hip to what he uses. His main Lester is a pre-Historic '59 RI

Dave P is right-Warrens Soldano is modded for him-ck out their site-i use an old marshall 50w 4 input head and a sansamp gt2 pedal boosted by a maxon od808 and its close enough especially in a live situation with a historic lp or even a (gasp) PRS-neck pickup all the way

What Dave said.

When I saw "The Mule" last year, that's exactly what he was playing thru. A Soldana, an Engl, and two 4x12 cabs. One was the PRS. It wasn't marked so I asked his tech what it was. He confrimed my suspicions.

He played a number of guitars that night and just flat KILLED! His 2 Custom Shop Darkburst Pauls were awesome.

This guy is very underrated as a guitar player. He has great tone, great song writing, and I like his acoustic work too
