This just rolled in yesterday. Absolutely spectacular build. Exceptional setup right out of the box.

I have an abundance of decades long hands on experience w/ Max, Gil, Gustavsson, Bartlett so I know the market quite well.

Gibson is leaving nothing on the table.

That guitar has one of the best tops I have ever seen! I’m contemplating a CS VOS vs ultra light Murphy lab. I read some posts of people saying there were issues with the finish flaking off? Is that a big issue or just a few isolated cases?

i’ve owned at least 12 murphy labs and have had no flaking issues. obviously there are folks who did but i imagine gibson has sorted it out by now.

Thanks for your reply. I was all set to purchase a dirty lemon VOS this weekend but the damn shop was closed on Sunday and I hadn’t worked out some details with the seller, so of course it sold on reverb on Sunday! The guy had sent me additional pics and I was all set to pull the trigger. But luckily I am finding many shops that have what I’m looking for, but noticed many had ultra light aged Murphys for a close price and the type of flame top I like, so I have been considering the Murphy now. Your feedback is helpful. I’m trying to be patient and wait for just the right one! I just sold one of my USA standards on reverb and will be selling another one soon to help fund the CS! I think I’m obsessed. 🤤

gibson is truly going beyond the beyond. bet paper money that the only reason that they didn’t go with shrunken inlays is because innerwebbz experts would call it a qc issue.

Hey, I actually just received a brand new 59 reissue Murphy lab ultra light aged in dirty lemon. For context, I have had numerous USA 50s standards and a 1990 classic, so I have played many LPs. I got the CS yesterday and I love the way it looks and the neck feels great, and the light aging is cool. But man it was set up like a dog! The action was quite high and the frets didn’t seem smooth. I have never received a new guitar that played like this. They told me they did a set up but I have a hard time believing them. I took it to my local tech for a total setup. I have 14 days to return it for refund if need be, hopefully it’s just a set up issue and nothing else. Such a disappointment to get This rather expensive guitar and to find it virtually unplayable out of the case! Does this seem like a a bad sign? I know even excellent guitars can play poorly with a bad set up. But for this kind of money I expected more. I compared it to two of my USA standards and my standards play like butter on comparison. Smooth frets, lower action. I’m trying to stay positive. But ultimately at least I can return it if need be.
