• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

This just rolled in yesterday. Absolutely spectacular build. Exceptional setup right out of the box.

I have an abundance of decades long hands on experience w/ Max, Gil, Gustavsson, Bartlett so I know the market quite well.

Gibson is leaving nothing on the table.

Gorgeous R9!
Thanks for sharing her beauty!

"NOTE TO SELF" - Stay out of any Murphy Lab Brazilian R9 threads in the future if you want to keep any love for your own R9!
Seriously that ML makes my R9 look like a USA Production standard in comparison!☹

So has Gibson finally "cloned" the legendary 59 down to every detail? it is no secret every year they missed something that was not correct.
Looks wise that ML is outstanding to say the least!😱 a real eye pleaser!🤤

i’ve owned at least 100 historics since they dropped.

i can’t speak to the entire range but the specs, materials, fit and finish on this guitar compare very favourably with the top shelf replica builders.

I played one of these just a few days ago and it was amazing.
Pretty much a perfect Les Paul.
The setup was perfect - right out of the box.
The maple has nice tasteful figure and the weight was light, but not a feather.
The neck was perfectly comfortable. It felt smaller and faster than some originals, but had a genuine old-school feel. (Just a teeny bit smaller than the neck of my 1959 ES345.)
The biggest difference between the 2024 Murphy and my own 1995 was the weight. I think the 2024 is just a few ounces lighter, just enough to notice.
My 1995 R9 is naturally aged and has finish checking and dings, etc. but is is far less "aged" than the 2024. It's a cosmetic thing on the 2024 in my opinion. The frets on my 1995 might need to be dressed...
I plugged the 2024 into a Fender Blues Jr. and it sounded lively, like a good old "classic-era" (PAF era, 1957-1962) Gibson should sound.
I have old PAFs in my 1995 and I set it up with 11s. (PAFs - 1962 in the neck and a 1959 double white at the bridge.) I think the sound of my 1995 compares quite favorably to the 2024 which had 10s, but I prefer my 1995. (I've also put some modern bumble bees from Luxe into my 1995. I've kept the stock pots, I like them, they work.)
Wow. If I wasn't already delighted with my old 1995 R9, I think could justify the $20K price tag.

I immediately tried out a non-braz Murphy Les Paul with the same amp and it was very different and did not play or sound nearly as good. However, I suspect that it was just the set-up and would be roughly equivalent with a proper and professional set-up.
There ya go!
