Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
I have a 50’s Standard, one of the late model’s where all the funny bells and whistles are gone (2019 man. date) and I absolutely love it. The tone, sustain, and build quality are all spot on.
I also recently added an R8 to my modest collection (2021 Classic also) and that to is amazing, even...
Beautiful!
I too prefer gloss. My R8 is VOS with pick ups aged even more than other R8’s I’ve seen, almost Murphy Lab aged. That’s a bit of a bummer. Oh well, it is what it is.
However, the quilted top is amazing so it’s a nice trade off.
Sorry, didn’t mean to derail.
Your R9 is sweet!
If you stand on one foot and face south, with one hand in the air it improves it also.
Ok, I’m just teasing. But seriously, all three of my Gibsons suffer from this malady to some degree. Some claim it will abate after some time. Who knows. I have only owned them since mid summer so maybe it’s...

My new R8 has questionable volume pots. It’s like I flick a switch once I dial down past 9.5. I have the shop looking at it now in case I need to raise a stink about it.
Funny thing, my 50’s Standard and Classic are much much better. Maybe they were like that in ‘58 and the reissue nailed it!
It’s amazing how so little weight can be so noticeable. I remember picking up the R8 in the store for the first time. I sensed right away that it was lighter. I even thought that maybe it was my imagination, how could I tell the difference instantly? But sure enough, it was.
Oh, and I must add...
I had to pick up a stand and exchange a faulty cable this morning and while I was in the store where I buy my gear, I looked at the 3 other R8’s and 2 R9’s hanging on the wall. They are up real high so it was the perfect angle to look at reflections. They all show the same flaw…umm sorry, I mean...
I know I didn’t notice anything on the R8 I returned. Just this one. But I prefer the flame on this one. As long as it doesn’t cause any problems I don’t really mind it.
As I say, I have to look for it to see it.
Thanks people.
Yes I was thinking along these lines.
I’m not worried, just curious enough to ask around and I appreciate the input.
As I said, it’s a keeper for sure. A stunning work of art if I do say so myself.
This was my thinking exactly. However, being my first Custom Shop I thought I would question the knowledge pool here.
Thanks for the reply, and glad you remembered your user name.
