• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

What year did they start getting 'the dish' right?

I know for a certain the new guitars are CNC carve duplicarver is the old process my point was a duplcarver did not carve the 50's to the same profile every top .

I really don't understand your confusion with my post !

That master looks pretty wack. look at the slope near the neck area. then it hits the slack belt sander. I get that there is tons of variation. I've seen maybe 20 bursts. Only only played a few. There are a couple traits that I notice that are not often discussed as "trade secrets" among the experts. These two major areas I have have only rarely seen on anything but a real 50s Les Paul.

These guitars are all hand made, then hand sanded soo i dont think there is a Correct carve.I think the most that was done around 2018 , was to get the carve more correct, as in more pronounceable around the edges, more pronounced belly and sharper edges

My 2018 R0, was hand picked by someone who has experience, in real bursts, and it was said that the 2018 is more like the origional’s, my 2019 R9 , was picked by someone else who plays with real ones as well, and was impressed by it…for all that its worth.

I am not, someone who has ever touched a Burst though.I study them as my Main Hobby..My Life Hobby…Bit the oldest Les Paul I have been able to compare is a 1968 , and it was pretty much the same as my Historics

Wish I had this one which I sold many years ago; it has a very distinct 'reverse' carve near the binding

I do recall when the 2017 Historics were announced, mention of the tops made to match the “Carmelita carve”. 2017 was an odd year in that Gibson didn’t show anything on their website and some of the 2017s were actually made in 2016. I believe the R7, R8 and R9 all got the 59 profile neck. But as far as the dish is concerned, I can attest that it’s not too shallow and not too pronounced.
