wow - thanks for asking! i will have to look into that Menatone. the guitar is a 2019 Special - my friend put Fralins in it before i bought it. the amp is a 2000 UK made model. i have 4 or 5 different gig amps, and the AC30 seems to always be in the top 2. i usually have a V-Twin in front, for the overdrive, but when i was playing funk & disco in the 90s and early 00s, i was utilizing the dry sound for about 1/2 the night, only kicking in the pedal for crunch rhythms and solos, etc. it is an awesome combination, the P-90s and AC30!

Hey guitartomy,
This is getting spooky my friend..

Not long after acquiring the AC30 that finally ended my search for the Vox with my name on it, I quite by chance saw a clip of Paul McCartney playing his stunning left hand 'burst into his Vox AC30.
Nothing to write home about here you think, except for the fact that between his guitar and amp was a Mesa V Twin..

The moment I heard the overdrive tones McCartney was getting, I just had to find a Mesa V Twin for myself.
You can blend the Mesa V Twin with the Vox and switch between Mesa clean and bypass (Vox) and get pleasingly close.

What you can't do is take those settings, place the Mesa in front of a Fender or Marshall and get a Vox sound, which brings me onto the Menatone tbiac.

Today there are Vox inspired pedals everywhere and Caitlinbread are very popular with those who've tried them. How they compare to Menatone I can't say. I can say that as an 'Amp in a Box' I can can alter the sound of my 5e3 Tweed Deluxe into a rough approximation of my AC30 that by simply switching on and off the Menatone pedal I can gig with two different but complimentary amp tone signatures from just one amp.

The positive reviews here lured me into ordering one, and it does not disappoint - black fingerboard, full neck with smaller frets, 7.7 pounds. Looks like a historic, but with a little less woodgrain showing on its one piece body, and individual, improved klusons that are somehow placed a little higher up the headstock than on the original.

It's surprisingly versatile in use - I just put a Mojoaxe wide bevel guard and TRC on it from Dan. Looks like Gibson is doing something right..

Haha, ta Sol. There was in fact a drummer there, though his tracks were already laid down and he was functioning as a recording engineer rather than drumming. That was a recording session for my friend's band, Big Boat, as they kindly asked me to guest on a couple songs on their current album. Here's one of the songs that I used the Special on, I come in on the choruses and do the lead outro.

"Steady Aim" from the Big Boat album "Debris Cover"

There's no greater compliment than to be asked to play on someone else's album, don't you think ?

It's a rare privilege and you aquited yourself very well in what I thought was a very competent mix, for whatever that may be worth coming from me of course :)

A drummer (Joel Robert) that can engineer, mix and master is worth his weight in gold.. So many bands are the captives of tech types with no lasting care or appreciation for your hard work.

Glad my attempt at humour came across btw, I couldn't resist.. 😜
Oh,. it would be great to know your signal chain for the recording ? I see the blackface Fender but that's all.

Agreed about guesting! I was shocked, haha! Especially since they've heard me play live. ;)

Since making the recording, my bands have played with Big Boat a couple times, and I got the chance to come up and guest on a couple songs with Big Boat. Here's one of those, using a different LP Special.

As for signal chain for the recording, there really wasn't one. I went straight into a mic'd Super Champ XD.
