I have a 1982 that I got a few years ago. Canadian edition. Caps seem good but I do have replacements. Such a killer little rig! I also have a Lynch Mod.

Seems like that Canada design is more reliable. My lighted plastic rocker power switch is unstable. Light usually goes out about 30 minutes after turned on. So I’m having to double and triple check to make sure I really turned it off (it was accidentally left on for over 30 hours). Mine has the 6550s, btw.

I really do! The 2nd tube needs to be pretty quiet or there can be some noise, granted from higher gain. It really pumps it up! I rarely need even cleanish and prefer more modern tones but still maintains the character of that series amp.

Got my 4010 back from my tech a few weeks ago with a check up, new tubes and filter caps. After I got it back, I did some speaker swapping. First, the original G12M70 (yuck, just as I remembered from previous amps with this speaker), next in a Mesa Black Shadow C90 (very good and so much of an improvement over the M70), next a Creamback (better than the M70, but not as good as the C90), last a late ‘70s G12-65 (winner).

I absolutely love this amp, my first amp in a long time where no OD pedal is needed for good overdrive at low to moderate volumes.

My first real up close experience with 'real gear' was with a JCM 800 4010 and a black Ibanez lawsuit LP Custom copy.

My friend's older brother had that rig right in the formal living room of the family's home. Working out VH1 riffs, so loud for a tract subdivision home, neighbors no like-y!

One day we snuck it out to the local park, which was some good-sized acreage and cranked it to get proper singing overdriven tonal bliss.

Of course, the coppers came. We weren't so well thought out, but the thrill was worth it and the whole scenario played out well in the eyes of the girls we brought along!

Great memory.

I have similar memories of my first band practicing in my parents garage and playing until the cops came. I recall this same thing happing a few other times in different locations.

I was using a JMP 2204 half stack back in the day. Good times.
