• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Looking for small amp recommendations

If you like Marshall tone, and havent tried the Blackstar Stage 60 amp, or one of its brothers, you have to do it. Try this on the Stage 60:

in the second overdrive mode, "voice" button pushed in, gain at about 7/10, bass about 3, mids about 4, pres and resonance at noon, and the ISF control just past noon, about 6 out of 10, splash of reverb too. The ISF is the key to the old EVH tone, and just past noon seems to do it. These amps are great and can dial up incredible early Eddie sounds. Another big factor is that like eddie you gotta have the B string tuned flat

Even at low volumes - awesome!!!!!!!!!

I love my Blackstar. If you can't get good tones out of a Blackstar you should probably stop playing guitar.

Hell... I build great sounding Marshall clones and I still play my Blackstar the most lol.

right on. If you haven't tried the Stage 60 you owe it to yourself. For anyone looking for the best price and 100% service, I'd recommend Pro Audio Star. Let me say that these guys are very professional; no hassle, they stand behind all their products, and they have the best prices. I'd recommend them to anyone. I have no association with that company but they are now my first call for gear.

I am picking up a SF Vibro Champ later this week from a good friend.

Any recommendations for a nice 1 x 12 cab?

louis electric buster or tremblelux. how about the Marshall 18 watt. I have a 58 fender tweed tremolux which is 15 watts and with the channels jumped has unforgetable all out broken up tone. Loud but kind of soft.

Mojo Tone has very nice cabinets. Really well built.

IIRC Avatar used to get their cabs built by Mojo. I could be wrong. I had an old Vintage style Avatar and it was a nice cab. Specs were the same as Mojo.

I got a new one recently and it's much nicer than my old one. Thicker plywood and the fit and finish is a bit better.

Avatar builds a really nice cab.

Be sure to impedance match the speaker to the amp. The Vibro Champ is rated at 3-4 ohms.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Picked up the amp last night, it is stupid clean and could pass for new.
I feel a new addiction coming on.

However, with only 3 amps in my "collection", the wife is already complaining about space.

Me thinks I need a guitar room.

That's why I got a good cab, easier to store heads than combos. But I think you need a guitar room, I sure do.

Good idea, I cleaned up some stuff today, put the guitars in the closet and the wife is happy.

Wow, I'm impressed, but now you don't need a guitar room. Unless, you get more guitars and amps. I recommend that.

Here's what I recommend a decade later: Bugera V5 Infinium. I've tried almost a dozen compact amps with my LP (including many of the ones that are quite popular with the LP) , and nothing came close to it in terms of the clean tone, especially at a similar price point.
