• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

How do you deal with...

Going to watch my step daughter perform tonight with a band. In a brew pub. With no mask. In California, no less. Covid cases are magically plummeting since Jan 20th. The virus saw Joe Biden and ran the other way. It’s a miracle, I tell ya!
Have fun, I wish I could join you!!! We have elections coming up march 17, so maybe we'll get some of that Biden anti-virus effect as well...
I'm not in a band or gig out at all, but I have been taking some time during "all this" to stretch out on my playing, learn some different styles / techniques, some new songs.
I didn't get a ton of time to myself to play before this, with work, the kid, other household stuff etc. |But I've been furloughed from my full-time job since erly april. I've been working part time at a senior living residence that my wife works at, but I do have much more time now in between to make noise.
I've always had pretty good internal timing, but |I'll still put the metronome on my phone once in a while.
To OP - do you have ways to file-share with your band mates? IT's not the same but you can have, say, the drummer or other guitarist (if there is one) record up a track and you can play along with it. Or recordings of gigs prior to?
Unfortunately my bandmates don't have any recording gear. I've got plenty of old gigs and backing tracks to play along with but that doesn't cure my lust for loudness...
The sun is shining and I just got some fresh strings, so my '57 ES225T is getting some love today!

Interestingly, my situation hasn't changed that much, either. Most of my playing is playing recording sessions and these days most of it is done as overdubs, by myself, at the studio. I this week I did my first at-home job and it was really pleasant.

Good to hear, Bob.
We're still pretty much stuck at home here in the Netherlands, all non-essential stores have been closed down since December and I can only have one visitor and everyone is locked down between 9pm-4.30am. I want to type my thoughts but we're not going political so I'll keep them to myself, but I'm getting really tired of not living my life the way I want...

Funny how that works, isn’t it?? This virus is the gosh-darned smartest freekin’ virus in history!!! It knows not to attack you when you sit down to eat! Crazy! These new labs can do anything nowadays!

Yes well this last year has seen the closing down(for music anyway) of a couple of acoustic/electric places that a group of us musos used to play at for many many years and with our R'n'R band there's been cancelled gigs with the lockdowns that have become part of our every few months or so life here in Auckland.
We're much more fortunate than the rest of you overseas though...... but not playing regularly is a worry at any stage of the game and I find myself having little mindblocks with lyrics from time to time now and of course very much miss the comradery.

I doubt the families, friends, and colleagues of the 500,000+ plus people that died from it see it as a miracle. Not to mention the many healthcare workers who have been facing it front and center for the past year.

Hopefully your step daughter's performance was good and the venue was safe for all attending.

I do miss rehearsing and gigging a lot. Have been active for the last handful of years and I must say I miss the road a hell of a lot.

I'm currently using my guitar time to study (online courses) and improve my blues skills.

I'm more musically active, diversified and collaborative than ever before. Just not gigging and definitely not in the same room as anyone else. My bandmates and I have a pretty good remote, asynchronous workflow going - working on new material, recording. We don't gig very often - more of a studio project these days. Trying to leverage YT and other video platforms.
