• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Page opens wall St. Anyone see this yet?

I would think this has to be an all time low for Jimmy, Has he not got enough money left over from the Zepplin days to avoid this 6 string whoring? I could see it if he was the majority owner promoting the sale of stock in his own company but this is over the line. On the other hand they may have given him 10,000 shares for showing up.
Not a bad payday!!!

Why is this bad? I dont believe ppl keep thinking that all music should be independent, that the "big corps" should all die and burn in hell. The world is money driven, yes, and its just something we have to live with.

If JP got called to open the NYSE, this is yet another proof that LZeps achievement goes beyond the music scenario, the guitar player thing...

Congrat's to Jimmy... He Rocks (nice to see double stacks on the trading floor also!!!!)

Rock on,

Rafael

Here's the video! .. I hope the link works! (it makes you view a 10 second commercial first), Although I can't figure out what he's playing - the music or guitar. All's I know is, if JP was playing 3 feet from me, I wouldn't be staring out into the fucking crowd!!!! How many people get an opportunity like that!! I would have taken him aside and asked to see the fingerings for the break in "Good Times-Bad Times" :dude :biglaugh: :lol

Fallen?? He's not on a corner selling pencils in a cup! Forbes says GM paid over 18 million to license "Rock-N-Roll" in their commercials over the next 3 years, and I am willing to bet that JPs appearance wasn't "gratis".

Lots of artists/groups make dickhead appearances like this. But hey!, a free trip across the pond, a week or two stay in NYC in a 1st class hotel, the chicks, and probably a nice chunk of change.

I think it was pretty cool. Jimmy is a legend. I don't see this as selling out at all, though it would of been cool if he was plugged in to a couple of old Marshall Plexis that were dimed.

I agree that Jimmy is a legend and I'd much rather see him doing stuff like this than wrecking zeppelin tunes w/ puff daddy.

I totally doubt he's hurting for cash as well. He had a reputaion for being a bit of a tightwad during the zeppelin days so I'm sure he has banked alot of $ and he gets royalties up the ying yang..Zep is still selling tons of albums

Pathetic -grovelling up there with suits, MBAs, and money men.

+1 In my mind, it's everything that Rock and Roll was never meant to be.

why can't dudes in suits appreciate his music and his presence? Alot of artists and other celebs open on Wall St all the time, it's really no big deal. If it was not for Wall St we would not have all the nice gear we all seem to crave and enjoy. I think JP's only sin here is not doing a reunion so that some can critize his tone or something.

at least if pagey did a reunion with his old band, he'd use a gibson..not like some other people who have recently reunited with their old band :bh

It makes me laugh when people talk about "selling out". It's called the music BUSINESS. People like Pagey wouldn't have put the effort in to make all that great music in the first place if there wasn't a big pile of money to be made. I think the capitalist nature of bands like Led Zep was a large part of their appeal for a lot of people. Playing your guitar is one thing, being a rock-star is something else. And who doesn't want to be a rock-star? You "sell-out" as soon as you sign a record contract. Just my opinion of course. I don't really like to see stuff like this Wall St. thing. I think it's a bit lame, but Jimmy's still my favourite player of all time, and that's not going to change because of this. I would still like to have been there to see him playing his Gibson.

They can, but they don't.

Of course, my above statement is a kind of hyperbole or exaggeration, but my point is that this is a Rock icon playing in the cathedral of the "system". Rock music is supposed to expose and reject things like greed, not ring the bell to start the daily frenzy.

Led Zeppelin was never about this. Thier goal was to get rich and to get rich fast.

Not so sure how rock music is supposed to expose and reject anything. Quite a few of the greatest rock anthems arent about anything at all...IMHO.

The late 70s / early 80s punk era had much more to say than any classic rock band that i can think of. But then again, they could barely play their no-name guitars.

Whatever. Its only rock and roll. I agree with a previous post that it was a bit on the lame side. Kinda embarassing for a fan.
