• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

    Trigger Warning !

When I joined this wonderful forum I did so in the hope of learning and benefiting from those with experience that I simply dont have, and that with time I might return the favour with observations of my own. I understand the individual behind my thread is controversial, but the pickups he made...

    57 mag swaps !

What guitars do you have the 57s and 61s in ?

    Trigger Warning !

After a period of experimentation with various sets of PAF style 'buckers in my Les Pauls over the last few yrs, I have recently reinstalled a set of Skatterbrane Yingbranes into my 2004 R7. The "Yingbranes" use alnico 2 magnets and measure 7.4k and 8.2k respectively. Apparently they share the...

Collings v Gibson enquiry, can you shed some light ?

The Collings 24 7/8" scale length could offer an improvement in tuning and intonation that is apparent in 25" scale guitars. Whatever the case, Im certain that Collings didnt pluck this particular scale length out of a hat.

Collings v Gibson enquiry, can you shed some light ?

By 'narrower' at the bottom bout do you mean that it is more shallow front to back ? I only ask as the proportions of the Collings and Gibson appear identical when referring to the images you have both generously provided.. Certainly if the lower bout is indeed narrower, it surely cant be by...

Collings v Gibson enquiry, can you shed some light ?

Are they the same size as the Gibsons ?

Collings v Gibson enquiry, can you shed some light ?

Perhaps the metal alloy and engineering tolerance matches those made by Gibson in the '50s ? Oh, fyi, that sub caldera lair your looking at ? it's a complete dump.. A 2.5 mile vertical drop with a cruddy trailer home at the bottom, furnished with a flashlight, tin of beans and a box of matches...

Collings v Gibson enquiry, can you shed some light ?

Whilst relaxing in my secret guitarists lair deep below the Yellowstone caldera volcano , a thought unconnected to your iminent humiliation occured to me.. Why do Collings use Kluson abr-1 bridges ? Given the company's reputation for sparing no expense in the pursuit of tone, I can only...

Collings v Gibson enquiry, can you shed some light ?

Renderit, I laughed out loud when you 'amp bombed' me. I had no idea what Id let myself in for by asking which amps you prefer when using the Collings and Gibson semi's. I had this idea for a comic response to match your 'amp bomb' with something salty and witty to get you back and raise a few...

    Vintage Blonde ES Guitars

Crashbelt, stunning guitar congratulations. Can I ask, how you came to the decision to remove the Varitone circuit from your guitar ? Cheers !

    Vintage Blonde ES Guitars

I tend to think that if the Varitone circuit diminished tone Im entirely confident that you of all people would know. The weight it adds cant be more than a few oz ? How much utility this circuit adds to the versatility of the ES 345 could perhaps be best answered by those that consider it...

    Vintage Blonde ES Guitars

Mike, Ive had another thought.. If we were to put aside the hardware differences between these two models, would you consider the ES 225 TDN to be the same guitar as an ES 175 TDN in its basic construction ? Many thanks, Sol

Does a new 2021 R9 smell of Nitro?

Think that jonspace has just solved the 'new Gibson aroma'. In a previous post I said that the only smell from a guitar Id sprayed with nitro, was the occasional whiff of laquer thinners, and yet my 1992 Les Paul had a glorious aroma, that was in time replaced by the smell of nicotine and stale...
